Guilty Gear which is also known under the name “The Missing Link” in Japan is the very first game of this series and was developed by Arc System Works. It was originally released onto the PlayStation platform in 1998, later going onto the PlayStation Network almost ten years later in 2007. The first release in the series didn’t really give gamers a whole lot of background on the actual story which is associated with the series as a whole. When even more Guilty Gear games, novels, and even CDs began to get released, that is when its history was revealed and explained to a lot of the people who had become fans because of the initial video game.
The original game release on the PlayStation in 98 features 2D graphics similar to what Street Fighter looked like at the time as well as The King of Fighters. Although the graphics didn’t give gamers anything new, it did focus more on doing combo moves rather than just mashing buttons which other games in that era concentrated on. It was definitely one of the small stepping stoned which led to other fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom which came out much later. The tension gauge that Guilty Geared implemented was similar to that of Street Fighter: Alpha in the sense that gamers were able to do super combo moves on their opponents, allowing them to defeat their opponents faster than ever before.
